1 Scope

This standard specifies a series of test methods for the high peel strength of adhesive tapes.

This standard is applicable for the determination of the peel strength of adhesive tapes, used for quality control of adhesive tape products.

2 Normative References

The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the version cited applies. For undated references, the latest version (including all amendments) applies.

GB/T2523-2008 Method for measuring the surface roughness and peak count of cold-rolled metal sheets (strips)
GB/T3280-2007 Stainless steel cold-rolled steel plates and strips

3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T22396 and the following apply to this document.

3.1
Peel Strength

The force required to peel a unit width of adhesive tape from a specific adhesive surface at a certain angle and rate. Unit: N/cm

3.2
Test Assembly

The assembly formed by pasting the adhesive tape to be tested on a steel plate.

3.3
Surface Average Roughness

The arithmetic average deviation of the roughness profile. That is, the arithmetic average of the absolute values of the roughness profile deviations over the sampling length.

4 Classification

This standard method can be divided into the following types according to different objects, temperatures, and peel angles of adhesive tape adhesion:

  • Method 1: Test method for the 180° peel strength of adhesive tape with stainless steel;
  • Method 2: Test method for the 180° peel strength of adhesive tape with its own backing film;
  • Method 3: Test method for the 180° peel strength of double-sided adhesive tape, transfer adhesive tape with stainless steel;
  • Method 4: Test method for the 180° peel strength of adhesive tape with non-stick material;
  • Appendix A: Test method for low-temperature peel strength of adhesive tape;
  • Appendix B: Test method for the 90° peel strength of adhesive tape.
